Being there! for someone in the final stages of life and their loved ones. You give the guests attention and support the nurse with personal care.
A hospice is a home where volunteers provide care to seriously ill people in the final stages of life, when a cure is no longer possible. Because it is not always possible to provide adequate care at home during the final stages of life, there is the option to continue care in the hospice house with the help of volunteers, family, and professional healthcare providers, where the aim is to replicate one's own home-like living situation as closely as possible.
What are you going to do?
Being there! for someone in the final stages of life and their loved ones. You give the guests attention and support the nurse with personal care. You work together with another volunteer. Sometimes you prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Who are we looking for?
Listening, being empathetic, a willingness to learn, and wanting to be there for fellow human beings in the final phase of life and their loved ones. We prefer people with a healthcare background, but it is not necessary. View the volunteer profile on the hospice website for more details. Good command of the Dutch language.
What do we have to offer you?
We offer training to all our volunteers in the form of basic training, peer supervision, and regular thematic meetings and courses.
What makes the work worthwhile?
Being there! for someone in the final phase of life and their loved ones.
Working hours
Willingness to work a 4-hour shift at least once (preferably twice) per week, of which at least one weekend shift per month. The shifts are: 08:00-11:00; 11:00-15:00; 15:00-19:00 and 19:00-23:00.

About Hospice Wageningen Renkum
Hospice Wageningen-Renkum has existed since 2010 and is small in size. This small scale allows us to best approximate a homely atmosphere
In the communal living room with open kitchen there is enough space for everyone who wants to join us.
Those who need some privacy can retreat to the quiet room. There is also an extensive library here and it is possible to listen to music.
Family and friends are very welcome. If desired, we involve them in the care, of course in careful consultation with our guest and the nursing staff. There is also a listening ear for family and friends if they need it.
For a small fee, it is always possible for family or friends to eat with them or stay the night with their loved one.
Room with garden
Each guest has their own room, with wide French doors to the garden. The rooms are comfortably furnished and of course guests can bring precious belongings from home to create their own personal atmosphere.
Hospice location
The hospice is located in the round bend of the Irenestraat in Wageningen. The entrance to the hospice is located between house numbers 48 and 50.
Click here for a route map and the location of the hospice. (On the map that appears, you will see Irenestraat 48 indicated. When you visit us, it is best to keep to this address. You will then see the hospice in the bend of this street.)
