SchuldHulpMaatje Wageningen supports people who have lost overview and control over their income and expenses.
As a Debt Assistance Buddy you can mean a lot by standing next to someone who has temporarily lost track of his/her financial situation. Through the national organization you first follow a 3-day training in which you learn, among other things, how to support someone without taking over and learn more about debt services in the Netherlands. There are then various e-learning courses that you can follow to continue learning.
The following qualities are important as a Debt Assistance Buddy:
· you have some affinity with finance/figures
· you are a good listener
· you can empathize with others
· you are patient
· you have a "boy scout mentality": you search together
help seeker a path to solutions

In order to put the administration back in order, a DebtHulpMaatje can spend some time with the person requesting help. A buddy also provides support if a debt restructuring process is needed. We say goodbye when someone is self-reliant again.
A buddy and the person requesting help make agreements together based on a relationship of trust and respect for each other's privacy. We have a duty of confidentiality. The person requesting assistance retains the initiative and direction.
