Become a familiar face to residents of De Baronie. You accompany them to medical appointments and offer comfort, attention, and a listening ear along the way.

Sometimes an appointment with the GP, specialist, or therapist is not a matter of course. Not because someone doesn't want to go, but because there is no one who can go along.

For De Baronie in Bennekom , which specializes in geriatric psychiatry, we are looking for a committed volunteer to accompany residents to medical appointments. You pick someone up, take them to the appointment, and are a familiar face along the way. In this way, you ensure that residents, even those without a support network of their own, receive the care they need.

What are you going to do?

  • You accompany residents to appointments, for example with the general practitioner, specialist, or hospital.
  • You pick up residents and bring them back safely afterwards.
  • The meetings are not limited to the Gelderse Vallei, but can also take place outside of it.
  • You offer calm, attention, and a familiar face during the journey.

Who are you?

You are someone who:

  • stands firmly on his or her own two feet;
  • remains calm in the face of unpredictable behavior;
  • can listen well;
  • makes contact without judgment;
  • does not want to solve everything, but can simply be there;
  • can set clear boundaries;
  • is reliable and keeps agreements;
  • is willing to invest in a relationship of trust.

Experience with geriatric psychiatry is not necessary. More important is that you are open to the target group and treat people with respect and patience. Additionally, it is important that you understand that people with a psychiatric illness do not always react as you would expect.

What do you get in return?

  • The appreciation of residents, their loved ones, and colleagues of Opella.
  • Mileage allowance and reimbursement of parking costs.
  • A warm and committed team.
  • Volunteer insurance.
  • An end-of-year gift.
  • Joint meetings.
  • Guidance and support from Opella.

Your ride is more than just transportation. You give someone the assurance that they are not alone. Will you be joining us soon?
