Do you have experience with mental health issues and do you enjoy helping others based on that experience? Become a host at the Skadi drop-in center!

Hi,

Thank you for viewing our vacancy.

Skadi is a center for resilience and development where people meet, share experiences, and build recovery and hope together. Come in as you are – and help others feel welcome.

Do you have experience recovering from a disruptive experience and/or living with mental health issues, and do you enjoy helping others based on that experience? Become a host at one of the drop-in sessions!

Detailed description

At Skadi in Wageningen, we believe that everyone who has experienced a disruptive event or lives with mental diversity can recover and build a meaningful life. At Skadi, we provide space for this. Do you want to contribute to a place where recovery, resilience, and development take center stage? Together with volunteers, we are eager to build a safe and equitable environment where everyone can learn, share, and develop. You do this by listening to peers, potentially sharing (part of) your own recovery, and talking together about your experiences.

Every Monday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, there is a walk-in session at Skadi. During these sessions, visitors can drop in without an appointment for a cup of coffee, a chat, a game, or simply to be part of the group. Everyone is welcome, and there are no obligations. That is precisely why the role of host is so important. You help make Skadi a place where people feel seen and welcome. You choose one fixed walk-in time: either Monday or Wednesday. If necessary and possible, you pitch in at other times.

What are you going to do?

You open the revolving door and make coffee and tea. You greet returning and new visitors, and explain the walk-in sessions and Skadi to new visitors. You answer simple questions about Skadi (and its offerings) and refer visitors with more complex questions to paid staff. You listen to conversations and contribute if necessary. You ensure that everyone adheres to the house rules so that Skadi remains a pleasant place for everyone. You keep track of visitor numbers and relay feedback from yourself and visitors regarding the walk-in sessions and Skadi to the paid staff. After the walk-in session, you ensure the space is left tidy. In short, together with another host, you ensure a pleasant walk-in experience.

Do you recognize yourself in the following?

You do not need any specific training. What we find most important is that you create a pleasant, safe, and welcoming atmosphere where visitors feel welcome.

  • You have personally experienced a disruptive event and/or have a mental diversity.
  • You are hospitable and open.
  • You are a good listener.
  • You have respect for different life stories and backgrounds, and everyone's individual process.
  • You help think about how we can make the walk-in even more pleasant.
  • You support the recovery philosophy that everyone with a disruptive experience and/or mental diversity can lead a meaningful life. You can convey this to others.
  • You work from a position of equality; you do not stand above the group.
  • You can look at your own issues from a distance.
  • You are familiar with peer support.
  • You identify with the values of restoration, equality, and reciprocity.

What makes the work worthwhile?

A meaningful volunteer role in a warm and engaged community. And room to be yourself

to develop. Perhaps you have your own ideas about meetings or activities at Skadi.

We are happy to think along with you.

Kind regards,

Linda and Patricia

Getting there

About Nieuw Wagenings initiatief: Skadi - centrum voor herstel en ontwikkeling

Skadi is a center for resilience and recovery. A place where you meet fellow sufferers, where you learn and develop. For example, by having coffee together, participating in activities such as making music and being creative, listening to a speaker, or joining a recovery group or a course.

You are welcome here just as you are. Whether you are recovering from a disruptive experience, living with a mental vulnerability, or simply looking for connection and growth—here you will find a place where your story matters. You don't have to prove anything. You just need to come as you are. With respect for everyone's journey, we build recovery and hope together.
Participation is almost always free. And you do not need a referral or indication.
Drop in during walk-in hours or come and meet us. You are welcome!
