The sailor supports the skipper in carrying out work before, during and after sailing.
The sailor supports the skipper in carrying out the work. The skipper remains (ultimately) responsible at all times.
The sailor prepares the ship for departure. To this end, he/she carries out a large number of preparatory actions, such as checking the engines (oil and coolants) and checking rescue equipment such as life jackets.
The sailor has an important role in the embarkation and disembarkation of our passengers.
He explains the gangway and counts the passengers on departure and arrival. There is constant coordination between the skipper and the sailor about the progress of the voyage.
To become a sailor it is necessary to get to know the ship well. This requires an extensive training period by experienced colleagues. The sailor must also be in possession of a so-called service booklet and he/she must undergo periodic medical examination. The sailor must also take two courses that must also be repeated periodically.
The costs of inspection and training are borne by the Rivieroevervaarten Foundation.

De Stichting Rijnoevervaarten exploiteert sinds 2017 het Safarischip De Blauwe Bever. Wij zorgen, door aantrekkelijke vaartochten, voor het behoud van de natuurbeleving op de Nederrijn en de Lek en in aangrenzende natuurgebieden en cultuur-historische monumenten. Wij hebben als doel het organiseren van belevenisvaarten en excursies in de delta van de Nederrijn en Lek tussen Arnhem en Culemborg, aan de voet van Nationaal Park de Utrechtse Heuvelrug, de Grebbeberg, de Wageningse berg en langs de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie. Sinds de oprichting van de Stichting Rijnoevervaarten wordt de organisatie rond De Blauwe Bever gerund door vele vrijwilligers. Tijdens het vaarseizoen zetten zij zich met hart en ziel in om de passagiers optimaal te laten genieten van ons vaarprogramma. In de wintermaanden verrichten zij zo nodig hand en spandiensten bij het technisch onderhoud.
