Do you want to contribute to inclusion in Uganda? Talking Hands is looking for a general board member (volunteer).
Put your knowledge and commitment to use for inclusion and equal opportunities in Uganda
Talking Hands is committed to the social inclusion of deaf and hard-of-hearing people in Uganda. Together with local partners, we work on access to education, opportunities in the labor market, and awareness regarding sign language and equal rights.
The role
As a general board member, you contribute to the strategic direction and further development of Talking Hands. You act as a sparring partner for the board and the operational volunteers, and contribute to the growth of the organization in a way that aligns with our values and scale.
Depending on your experience and interests, you can contribute ideas regarding one or more focus areas, such as fundraising, acquisition, partnerships, or organizational development. In doing so, you make a direct contribution to the impact of our projects in Uganda.
Because continuity within the board is important, we are looking for someone who is willing to commit to this role for at least two years.
Are you available for a shorter period but still interested in contributing? Then we warmly invite you to take a look at our other (volunteer) vacancies.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who:
- has an affinity with inclusive development and international cooperation
- can think strategically and enjoys sharing knowledge and ideas
- good command of English; command of Dutch is an advantage
- has management experience or is motivated to gain this experience at Talking Hands (management experience is a plus, not a requirement)
Spending of time
The role is easy to combine with work or other commitments. On average, we ask for a commitment of approximately 4 hours per week, with flexibility around important moments or deadlines.
What do we offer you?
- A meaningful volunteer role with visible social impact
- The opportunity to gain managerial experience or to further deepen one's knowledge
- Collaboration with a motivated and diverse board and team
- Room for personal input, development, and deepening in international cooperation
Interested?
We would be happy to get acquainted without obligation. Feel free to contact us to discuss whether this role suits you.
