Do you want to contribute to inclusion in Uganda? Talking Hands is looking for a financial administrator volunteer.

Contribute to inclusion and equal opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing people in Uganda with your accuracy and commitment.

Talking Hands is looking for a volunteer to help us with the foundation's financial administration. Until now, bookkeeping was part of the treasurer's role. We now want to separate these tasks. The day-to-day financial administration will be handled by a volunteer, while the treasurer remains responsible for financial policy and oversight within the board.

About Talking Hands

Talking Hands is committed to the social inclusion of deaf and hard-of-hearing people in Uganda. Together with local partners, we work on access to education, opportunities in the labor market, and awareness regarding sign language and equal rights.

The function

As a financial administration volunteer, you help keep Talking Hands' financial records neat and organized. Our bookkeeping is not complicated and is maintained in Excel.

You process income and expenses, maintain bank and cash records, and ensure that invoices, receipts, and other financial documents are properly processed and stored. You also keep track of received donations and pay regular invoices and other expenses.

You work closely with the treasurer. Within the board, the treasurer remains responsible for the financial management, the budget, and the financial accountability of the foundation. The treasurer oversees the administration and discusses financial developments and specifics with you and the board.

You do not need to have any experience with bookkeeping. We are happy to explain how our administration works, and you can learn the tasks in practice. The most important thing is that you work accurately, enjoy working with numbers and administration, and can maintain an overview.

Your tasks

  • Maintaining the financial records in Excel;
  • Processing income, expenses, and donations;
  • Maintaining bank and cash records;
  • Executing and administratively processing payments, such as invoices and transfers to partners;
  • Archiving financial documents;
  • Keeping track of received donations and sending receipts;
  • Assisting with the annual financial closing.

What are you bringing?

  • You would like to contribute to a good cause and make a social impact;
  • Interest in finance and administration;
  • Accuracy and an eye for detail;
  • Independence and sense of responsibility;
  • Good communication and collaboration skills;
  • Experience with financial administration is not necessary; you can learn this with us;
  • Experience with Excel is a plus.

There is room to further shape the role and contribute your own ideas and initiatives.

Spending of time

The position can be easily combined with work or other commitments:

  • On average 1-2 hours per week;
  • The work can largely be performed independently and from home;
  • Regular brief consultation with the treasurer, when necessary.

Given the need for continuity in the financial administration, we are looking for someone willing to commit for the long term.

What do we offer you?

  • A meaningful volunteer role with direct societal impact;
  • The opportunity to gain new knowledge and experience in financial administration;
  • Collaboration with a committed and motivated board and team;
  • Room for personal input and initiative;
  • Insight into the financial side of a small international foundation;
  • Working on international cooperation with local partners in Uganda.

Interested?

We would be happy to meet without obligation to discuss whether this role suits you.
