Stichting Vluchteling Onder Dak (VOD) is a voluntary organization that focuses on the reception and guidance of refugees for whom the first application for asylum has been rejected. They are supported with legal and social guidance, housing and living allowance.
We are looking for a buddy for a male client. As a buddy, you meet with the client at least once a month and then look together at what you are going to do. You can go for a walk together, go through the mail, go to the library, help with practicing the Dutch language, pursue a hobby, or go to the doctor or an agency together. A client can also sometimes use your help for making appointments.
You help the client better find his/her way in society. You break through social isolation and stimulate participation/integration in society as much as possible. You are socially involved as a buddy, for example you discuss things that are bothering the client at that moment, you offer a listening ear. The conversations can be about income, housing, health, education, meaningful daytime activities, gaining contacts, etc. You help and support him in this, without taking over directing.
If necessary, you provide VOD with information regarding your client's needs that VOD can help or mediate with. You can keep in touch with the buddy coordinator about the well-being of the refugee and you can go for guidance and questions.
