We are looking for a companion/buddy for a lady who has just moved in at Vluchteling Onder Dak. Will you help her find her way around Wageningen?
Do you enjoy regularly doing something fun with a refugee and supporting her in finding her way in Wageningen? Then we are looking for you!
As a buddy, you visit the client at least once a month, but preferably more often. Together, you agree on what you will do. You can go for a walk, go through the mail, go to the library, practice the Dutch language, pursue a hobby, or accompany her to the GP or an agency.
You help the client find her way better in society. You break social isolation and encourage participation and integration into society as much as possible. You are socially involved as a buddy, discuss matters the client is currently struggling with, and offer a listening ear. The conversations can cover well-being, education, meaningful daytime activities, making contacts, etc. You help and support her without taking over control.
You provide regular updates to VOD on how the contact is going. You stay in touch with the buddy coordinator regarding the refugee's well-being, and you can turn to them for guidance and questions.
We strive to place a network of buddies around our clients. You can also sign up together with someone.
What does VOD have to offer you?
As a refugee buddy, you are supervised by the buddy coordinator. You can turn to the buddy coordinator with any questions, and we regularly evaluate how the contact is going. After contact with the client, you report any notable details, and a discussion takes place regarding possible solutions to problems.
