For a refugee with health questions, we are looking for a buddy who can accompany her to doctor or hospital visits, and other appointments. She lives in Wageningen but sometimes has to go to the hospital in Ede and is not very mobile. Someone with a car, who can accompany her to and during these appointments, and help in case of language problems, would be fantastic! In addition, as a buddy you can regularly do something fun with the refugee to keep her out of possible social isolation.
The appointments are irregular but always on weekdays (office hours) and cost about 2 hours every 2 or 3 weeks. You can also agree together whether and how often you will do another activity, usually this is about once a month. You can go for a walk together, check the mail, go to the library, help with practicing the Dutch language, practice a hobby, etc.
You are socially involved as a buddy, for example you discuss things that are bothering the client at that moment, you offer a listening ear. The conversations can be about income, housing, health, meaningful daytime activities, gaining contacts, etc. You help and support her with this, without taking over directing.
You regularly provide VOD with an update on how the contact is going. You can keep in touch with the buddy coordinator about the well-being of the refugee and you can go for guidance and questions.
We strive to place a network of buddies around our clients. You can also sign up together with someone.
What does VOD have to offer you?
As a refugee buddy you will be guided by the buddy coordinator. You can contact the buddy coordinator with all your questions and we regularly evaluate how the contact is going. After contact with the client, you report details and consultations take place about possible solutions to problems.
