Help a young man (18 years old) find his way in Wageningen. A number of single young refugees will soon be living in their own rooms.

Wageningen has a number of houses for unaccompanied minor refugees who live there under supervision. As soon as they turn 18, they get their own (student) room. From that moment on, a lot comes their way, and they are supported by a volunteer from VluchtelingenWerk for a period of a year or a year and a half. Interpreters are available if necessary.

What are you going to do?

You assist the young man with paperwork and help him find his way around the municipality. This includes, for example, taking out insurance and energy contracts, applying for benefits, and searching for further education. However, the guidance goes beyond practical matters alone. It also involves familiarizing him with his home and surroundings, making contacts in the neighborhood, and finding sports and leisure activities. Much attention is also paid to expanding the refugee's social network and self-reliance, so that they can work independently on their new future more quickly.

VluchtelingenWerk is looking for volunteers with a higher professional education (HBO) working and thinking level who are willing to commit for at least two half-days per week for a period of at least one year.

Who are we looking for?

- Good communication skills. - Respectful and patient attitude towards clients. - Flexibility in handling unexpected and unfamiliar situations. - Taking responsibility for your tasks, but also being able to set your own boundaries. - Integrity in handling (confidential) information. - Ability to work independently and as part of a team. - Basic knowledge of a foreign language (preferably English). - Proficient with computers.

What do we have to offer you?

- Working in a motivated team of volunteers. - Gaining work experience in a social organization. - Expert guidance by a professional. - Reimbursement of travel or expenses and insurance during working hours. - Participation in training and courses.
