Summary

Help a young man (18 yrs) to find his way in Wageningen. A number of single young refugees will soon be living independently in rooms.

Detailed description

Wageningen has a number of houses for unaccompanied minor refugees who live there. As soon as they turn 18, they get their own (student) room. From that moment on, a lot comes to them and they are guided by a volunteer from the Council for Refugees for the duration of about a year and a half. Interpreters are available if necessary.

What are you going to do?

You help the young man with the paperwork and help him find his way around the congregation. Consider, for example, taking out insurance and an energy contract, applying for benefits and looking for further education. But the guidance goes beyond practical matters. It is also about finding your way in and around the house, making contacts in the neighbourhood, finding sports and leisure activities. Much attention is also paid to increasing the refugee's social network and self-reliance, so that they can work independently more quickly on their new future.

The Council for Refugees is looking for volunteers with a higher vocational level of work and thinking, who are willing to commit themselves to at least two half-days a week for a period of at least one year.

Who are we looking for?

- Good communicative skills. - Respectful and patient attitude towards clients. - Flexibility in dealing with unexpected and unknown situations. - Taking responsibility for your tasks, but also being able to indicate your own limits. - Integrity in handling (confidential) information. - Able to work independently and in a team. - Basic knowledge of a foreign language (preferably English). - Good computer skills.

What do we have to offer you?

- Working in a motivated team of volunteers. - Gain work experience in a social organization. - Expert guidance by a professional. - Travel or expense allowance and insurance during working hours. - Participation in training and courses.
