As a social worker, you guide and coach refugees who have recently been housed in the municipality.
You show them the ropes and build a bridge to Dutch society. You play an important role in their start and integration in Wageningen.
What are you going to do?
- You explain the functioning of procedures and agencies.
- You provide practical support with questions regarding housing, finances, education, and healthcare.
- You provide explanations regarding the mail and assist with processing.
- You assist refugees with contacts with authorities and with applying for things like health insurance or school.
- You assist in building a social network.
- Together with the refugee, you map out knowledge and skills and make agreements in a support plan.
- You make notes in the refugee tracking system.
What do we ask?
- Good communication skills and being creative in using them—think non-verbal communication, translation apps, drawing, speaking simply and slowly. Our clients are in the process of learning Dutch. Sometimes they speak English.
- Respectful and patient attitude towards refugees
- Flexibility in handling unexpected and unknown situations.
- Taking responsibility for your tasks, but also being able to set your own boundaries.
- Integrity in handling (confidential) information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Dutch language
- Proficiency in another language such as Arabic, Tigrinya, or Farsi/Dari is a plus.
- Being good with a computer.
What do we have to offer you?
- The chance to make a difference for others.
- Great connections and a friendly atmosphere in a diverse team.
- Plenty of opportunities to learn about other backgrounds and cultures.
- Room for personal development and initiative.
- A thorough onboarding program.
- Opportunities to take e-learnings, training, and courses at the VluchtelingenWerk Academie.
- Expense allowance.
