As coordinator of the VoorleesExpress Wageningen, you support volunteers who read aloud to children with a language delay.

VoorleesExpress Wageningen supports children who could use a little extra support in their language development. Volunteers read aloud to the family for one hour a week for 20 weeks. They also conduct other language activities to encourage the child in this area. There are currently three coordinators. We are looking for someone to strengthen this team.

What are you going to do?

As a coordinator, you support readers and families throughout this process. You visit the families twice in 20 weeks and ensure good alignment between the family and the reader, with the goals formulated with the family serving as the guideline.

As a coordinator, you are well-informed about what is happening in the families' homes and keep an eye on the expectations and goals of the readers and families. Together, you look at how reading aloud fits the family situation.

You organize two to three meetings per year for the readers, during which you coach them, facilitate the exchange of experiences, and ensure that the readers work as intended.

You will be supervised by the project management of the VoorleesExpress, who are employed by the Wageningen Library.

What skills do you need?

- You have at least a higher professional education (HBO) level of thinking

-You have a good command of the Dutch language.

-You communicate easily with different target groups (readers and families)

-You are easily reachable (by phone or email)

-You are reliable, responsible, and persistent

-You are 18 years or older.

What do we offer?

-A fun volunteer opportunity where you get to know families of different backgrounds

-You contribute to the reading pleasure and development of children who desperately need it

-A pleasant collaboration with the library and other readers

-A training on the importance of reading aloud and how to do so in an interactive way

-A one-year subscription to the Wageningen library.

Working hours

Being a coordinator means you have peak moments during the year, specifically during the periods when families and readers are matched. During these periods, it involves several hours per week, usually later in the afternoon. Furthermore, time is spent organizing meetings with the readers, conducting evaluation visits with each family, writing short evaluation reports, and maintaining contact with project management. You are the one who makes the appointments, so you need to be flexible.
