Summary

Reader in a family with children (3-9 years) with a language deficiency.

Detailed description

As a reader you read weekly to children between the ages of 2 and 9 who need extra support for their language development. You come to the family home 20 times, on a set evening and time. You will be guided by a coordinator and you will receive training in 'interactive reading' from the Wageningen Library. The VoorleesExpress is a special and educational experience for both families and readers.

What are you going to do?

As a reader you slowly get parents and children used to interactive reading, books and stories and show how much fun reading (aloud) is. In addition, you can do additional activities such as singing songs and language games to stimulate language development. You also visit the library with the family. With the family, you look at how the reading fits best in their home situation and you give the parent (s) tools to take over for themselves.

Due to the corona measures , we do not now come into the homes of families. We read digitally (you will receive training in this) or deliver booklets at the door so that parents can start on their own. Sometimes you can read outside. As soon as it is allowed, we will of course read to the house again!

What do you have to be able to do?

-Like to interact with children

-Have affinity with children's books and read aloud

-Can speak Dutch well

-Flexible and problem solving, patient

-Easily accessible

-You can live in families from different backgrounds

-Punctual, stick to agreements

- Older than 18 years old

If you start working for us, we will apply for a VOG for you

What do we offer?

-A nice volunteer place with families of different origins

-A training of the Specialist Education of the Library and access to the E-learning tool of the Nationale VoorleesExpress

Exchange of experiences with other volunteers

- Guidance by a volunteer coordinator

-One year free subscription from the Wageningen Library

What makes it worthwhile?

It is a lot of fun to watch children improve!

Working time

The average commitment is 2 hours per week. The volunteer work consists of an hour of reading and some preparatory work. You have to think of selecting and borrowing books from the bblthk. In addition, there is an e-learning that supports you and gives tips in increasing parental involvement
