Do you love gardening, would you enjoy meeting women at the asylum seeker center (bi-)weekly, and do you get excited about keeping an overview and creating?

"Wow! I have never seen this vegetable in the Netherlands. My mother always grew this in Iraq. May I please cook with it?"

- one of the women who regularly visits the women's group

The women's group on Bosrandweg has existed for more than four years. We meet every week to socialize. For the past year, we have also had our own vegetable garden plot. It is a wonderful place to grow vegetables together, experiment, and learn from one another. Every week, we work in the garden with about two to six women from the asylum seekers' centre. Some have very green fingers and teach us all about how they farm in their countries, while others enjoy learning how to grow their own vegetables. In the meantime, we get to know each other better and practice the Dutch language.

Do you have a green thumb, or are you eager to learn and would you like to be involved? Then we are looking for you!

Due to changes in residents at the asylum seekers' centre, the composition of the women changes throughout the year. Volunteers bring stability to the group by being present weekly.

As coordinator of the women's group for the garden...

  • Does gardening make you enthusiastic?
  • Do you enjoy meeting women from different cultures?
  • Are you available for an average of 2-4 hours per week or every two weeks?

In consultation, you will take on (part of) the following tasks :

  • Participate in the women's vegetable garden group at least twice a month
  • Creating a schedule indicating when which volunteers are present
  • Together with the women and the other volunteers, we look at which vegetables can be grown.
  • Keeping an overview of what the women and volunteers can do in the garden
  • Contact (via WhatsApp) with the women involved in the vegetable garden
  • As desired: organizing a harvest festival, a trip to a pick-your-own garden or the garden center, or cooking together.

Working in the vegetable garden takes place on Wednesday afternoons from 15:30 to 17:00. It would be nice if you could be present two to four times a month.

Depending on your wishes, there is plenty of room to handle the coordination together with the coordinator of the general women's group for the first few months. It will require a bit more time at first, but then it will decrease in intensity. We offer guidance and will continue to think along with you.
